Looks like another WP update is on the horizon, and it is WordPress 4.8 final release expected on June 8, 2017. This would be the first huge release of this year which aims to improve existing features as well as set the ground for the Gutenberg – a cutting-edge editor. Some more updates are also supposed.
If you are interested in the detailed list of updates, you can see the complete release schedule here. Right now we are going to speak on the very first stage of WP update, and this is its Beta 1 version.
WordPress 4.8 Beta 1 was released on May 12 and it comes with three major enhancements we should take into consideration. They are as follows:
- You get a refined WYSIWYG editor experience that includes a new TinyMCE allowing you navigate through inline elements (such as links) in a more intuitive manner than ever before.
- The WordCamp/meetup dashboard will be upgraded to the “news” section. This means that a dashboard news widget will be revamped to bring in the closest and upcoming events, and WordCamps/meetups are no exception.
- Media widgets will be quite new. The updates will cover images, audio, and video widgets, and a visual editor will be available in the text widget.
You can test WordPress 4.8 Beta 1 either with a beta tester plugin or just run trunk. The goal of the update is to make editing posts with links really intuitive, simplify the widgets for new users, make the widgets more convenient for current users, and get lots of people aware of the upcoming community events they would probably like to attend.
Let’s look forward for the 4.8 WP version final release together!
